Sunderland to REFUND supporters match tickets after humiliating defeat to Southampton
SUNDERLAND players will refund the cost of supporters' match tickets for last Saturday's humiliating 8-0 defeat at Southampton.
Fans have the option of a full ticket refund, or their ticket money will be donated to Sunderland-based children's hospice, Grace House.
About £60,000 will be offered to the 2,500 fans who travelled to the south coast and any unclaimed money will be donated to the children's hospice.
Sunderland captain John O'Shea said: "We win and lose as a team, players, staff and fans, however we wanted to acknowledge and thank the supporters who travelled such a long way to give us their backing and despite everything, stayed with us until the final whistle."
Poyet speechless at players performance [AMBIENT]
Manager Gus Poyet yesterday called for owner Ellis Short to back him in the January transfer window following the loss at the St Mary's stadium.
Poyet said: "I'm a head coach. I don't make the squad. That's not my job. I've got four defenders. I play what I've got. The rest I'm sorry - I'm not going to start making excuses or taking responsibilities, they are not mine.
"I accept it was me that picked the team and I put them on the pitch, that is my responsibility. Until then, I take it. The rest, I am sorry, I'm not going to take it."
