1936 and all that! Football omens look good for Arsenal
THE last time England had five or more Arsenal players on the pitch at the same time was in May 1936.
They lost 2-1 away to Austria in Vienna with six Arsenal players in the team.
Charles Male and Eddie Hapgood were the two full-backs, William Crayston at right-half and Wilf Copping at left-half. While Ed Bowden and Cliff Bastin played up front.
In that year Sunderland won the Division One title that year - interestingly, the last time the English league was won by a team in stripes.
Job done for Hodgson's England against San Marino
Arsenal won the FA Cup with another England player Ted Drake scoring the only goal against Sheffield United.
It was also the year that the famous Marble Halls were inaugurated at Arsenal's Highbury Stadium.
