Switzerland defeat makes England's Euro 2016 task even easier
SWITZERLAND, rated pre-tournament as the only team in in Group E capable of posing a threat to England, have hit early trouble.
Milivoje Novakovic’s 79th-minute penalty condemned them to a 1-0 defeat in Slovenia, leaving them pointless from their opening two games.
Lithuania, though, kept pace with England when a late goal from Saulius Mikoliunas was enough to beat Estonia.
There was a shock for European champions Spain – Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, David Silva and all – who went down 2-1 to Slovakia in Bratislava.
Iker Casillas failed to deal with Juraj Kuca’s 17th-minute free kick – and though Paco Alcacer equalised eight minutes from time, Miroslav Stoch struck a late winner.
Luxembourg lost 3-2 in Macedonia after a goal in injury time, having led 2-1 at half-time.
