Former Liverpool hero Dirk Kuyt calls time on Netherlands career
EX-LIVERPOOL star Dirk Kuyt has retired from international football.
The 34-year-old Dutchman, who enjoyed a six-season spell on Merseyside, has called time on his Oranje career after 104 appearances.
Kuyt scored 24 goals for the Netherlands and enjoyed a successful World Cup campaign in Brazil under Louis van Gaal's management.
He said: "This goodbye is hard for me.
"In one fell swoop, I'm no longer an international, but an Oranje fan. It's all still very fresh.
"I'll miss everything about it but perhaps the goosebumps you get during the national anthem most of all.
"I consider playing for my country as the greatest honour there is and I'm thankful I had that opportunity."
Kuyt is currently at Turkish side Fenerbache after joining them from Liverpool in 2012.
