Man Utd News and Transfers: Strootman boost, Alves WANTS move, Shaw dropped to U-21s
MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a massive boost in the pursuit of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal, who worked with Strootman during his time as Netherlands manager, was unable to sign the 24-year-old in the summer due to an injury.
However, the Dutchman is reportedly keen to renew his interest in January with a £30m bid, and Roma chief Rudi Garcia admitted the deal is completely out of his hands.
Barcelona defender Dani Alves, who has also attracted the likes of Liverpool, has put United on red alert after claiming he wants a move to the Premier League next summer.
The 31-year-old said: "I am moving to England next year.
"I am going to play in the cradle of football. This will be my last year at Barcelona."
Summer signing Luke Shaw, who cost £27m from Southampton, has been dropped by Roy Hodgson to the England Under-21s squad.

The left-back, who featured at the World Cup in Brazil, is joined by Arsenal's Calum Chambers and will face Croatia in the Euro 2015 play-off.
Fans' favourite Park Ji-sung has returned to United after a two-year leave, joining as a club ambassador.
The 33-year-old South Korean said on his appointment: "I have fond memories of my time at Manchester United and I am delighted and honoured to have become an ambassador for the club."
And finally, United outcast Nani, currently on loan at Sporting Lisbon, remains coy over his future at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old winger said: "I don't know. At the moment, I just want to enjoy the football.
"I want to play, I want to be at my best and then let's see what happens in the future. But at the moment, I am a Manchester United player."
