Liverpool news and transfers: Sturridge fitness boost, Bony revelation, Lavezzi battle ON
LIVERPOOL fans will be delighted to see their talisman Daniel Sturridge resume light-training after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The Anfield favourite sustained a thigh injury during a rigorous England training session, and has subsequently missed Liverpool's defeat to Aston Villa, victory over Ludogorets, and this weekend's trip to West Ham.
However the ruthless striker is in contention to face Merseyside rivals Everton on the 27th September, and confirmed his progress via Twitter this afternoon.
Sturridge tweeted: "Pushing myself to my limit right now for real. Closer to fitness each day!!"
Wilfried Bony Player Profile
Wilfried Bony has revealed multiple Premier League clubs enquired about his availability over the summer.
Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool were widely believed to be the favourites to secure the Cote d’Ivoire international for a fee in the region of £19m.
Bony said: "Now it’s over," he said of the transfer speculation. "Before we were talking, but now it’s over so I have to focus on the team.
"There were some chances (that I might leave). I waited and nothing happened so now I am just focused on the team."
Liverpool are set for a heated battle with Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid if they are to land Paris Saint-Germain forward Ezequiel Lavezzi.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Diego Simeone hasn't given up hope of landing the Argentine international, and will table an offer in January.
The 29-year-old's contract is due to expire in the summer of 2016, and with a new contract yet to be concluded - a Parc des Princes exit is a very real possibility.
Acquiring Lavezzi for a nominal fee in January, or for free in the summer would represent a sizeable coup for either Champions League side.
