Arsenal Transfer News: THREE options to replace Vermaelen, Khedira blow, Cazorla pledge
ARSENAL are stepping up their interest in possible replacements for Thomas Vermaelen.
Daniel Agger Player Profile
Gunners' great Tony Adams has bemoaned Vermaelen's departure and claimed Arsene Wenger needs another top-class centre back to contend for the title this season.
And it seems that Wenger is in agreement, with the north London side linked with a host of players today.
Liverpool's Daniel Agger tops the list with the Dane making little secret of his unhappiness at Anfield.
And Arsenal have been boosted by the news that Tottenham are not chasing Agger, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
Another option for Wenger is Manchester City's Matija Nastasic, who could be headed for the exit at the Etihad following the arrival of Eliaquim Mangala.
For Gunners fans it would be nice to see a Manchester City player heading to London to buck the recent trend of stars heading in the opposite direction.
A less familiar candidate could be Kostas Manolas who has been impressing for Olympiakos.
The Greek defender, who previously decided against joining Everton, has also been linked with Juventus, Roma and Napoli this summer.
Getting away from defence, Jose Mourinho wants Sami Khedira to ignore any interest from the Gunners and make the move to Chelsea on a free transfer next summer.
But it seems that there may not be a place for Khedira at Arsenal with Santi Cazorla confirming his intention to remain at the club.
Elsewhere, Turkish giants Galatasaray are said to be weighing up a bid for Lukas Podolski and Joel Campbell.
And Crystal Palace, Southampton and Newcastle are all ready for a battle after learning that German starlet Serge Gnabry will be available on loan next season.
