Leeds are fighting off interest for young defender Sam Byram from both Southampton and Sunderland [GETTY]
Leeds are fighting off interest from both Southampton and Sunderland as try to secure his services for the upcoming Premier League season.
Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is keen to sign the youngster to boost his defensive options after the club's summer exodus.
Saints have lost the likes of Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers in this summer's transfer window along with Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dani Osvaldo.
It is hoped that the signing of Byram will offer competition for places in the Southampton squad as Koeman believes Byram will be a viable competitor for the right-back position with Nathaniel Clyne.
Southampton's Summer Exodus
Leeds are believed to be holding out for a £10million offer for the young defender.
Byram has established himself in the first team at Elland Road after making his debut in 2012 and going on to make 69 appearances for the club.
He had been a target for Manchester City and Everton last year but pledged his future to Leeds signing a new deal keeping him at Elland Road until 2016.
However, now his future seems in doubt after strong interest from the Black Cats and Saints.
