Arsenal plot Atsuto Uchida bid as Bacary Sagna edges closer to Man City move
ARSENAL are planning to raid Bundesliga outfit Schalke for their star full-back Atsuto Uchida.
The Japan international, capable of playing on either side of the backline, is rated as one of the best defenders in the German league, and Arsene Wenger is keen to strike a deal for the versatile 26-year-old as he looks to bolster his squad.
Right-back veteran Bacary Sagna is on the verge of joining Premier League champions Manchester City on a free transfer, and Wenger knows that he must move quickly for a replacement.
Bacary Sagna Player Profile
The Gunners have been linked with City's Micah Richards, Toulouse youngster Serge Aurier and Atletico Madrid's Juanfran in recent days, but Uchida's unique blend of talent and experience makes him the most likely to move to the Emirates.
Wenger has questions marks over Richards' long-term fitness, while 21-year-old Aurier still has years of development ahead of him. A move for Juanfran also looks unlikely after the Spaniard's rise with La Liga champions Atletico, and the Gunners boss is unwilling to pay an inflated price for a player approaching 30.
