Blackburn 4 - Wigan 3: James McClean lucky not to see red in goal-fest
NO ONE told James McClean that Wigan could afford to take it easy after booking their play-off place.
He was lucky not to see red after apparently head-butting Grant Hanley. But he stayed on to score.
Rovers led 3-1 at half-time thanks to a Rudy Gestede double, after Wigan’s Ivan Ramis cancelled out Tom Cairney’s opener.
With Reading and Brighton losing then, Blackburn knew a ?urry of goals might secure a top-six ?nish.
But McClean blasted in before Rovers’ Jordan Rhodes and Wigan’s Nicky Maynard struck.
Latics boss Uwe Rosler said: “Heading into the play-offs, it was fantastically important McClean was not sent off.”
Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer said: “I asked Grant what the ref said to him. He just said ‘Keep enjoying the game.’ ”
