Middlesbrough 1 - Millwall 2: Maierhofer cooks up win
IAN HOLLOWAY’S decision to rescue former chef Stefan Maierhofer from the football scrapheap paid off at the perfect time.
The Austrian giant flopped during a season at Wolves four years ago and was without a club after German side Cologne released him.
But last month Holloway offered the 6ft 8in forward a short-term deal, and he headed his first two Lions goals, lifting them out of the bottom three despite Emmanuel Ledesma’s free-kick consolation for Middlesbrough.
Boro didn’t handle Stefan, did they? I don’t want to look at the league table at the moment – it’s irrelevant. We’ve still got three games to play
Holloway said: “Boro didn’t handle Stefan, did they? I don’t want to look at the league table at the moment – it’s irrelevant. We’ve still got three games to play.”
Boro boss Aitor Karanka said: “We need to improve, to learn from this."
