Former Liverpool and Chelsea star Tony Hateley dies
FORMER Liverpool and Chelsea striker Tony Hateley has passed away at the age of 72.
Hateley, who also played for Aston Villa and Notts County, scored 211 goals during a glittering career that spanned 16 years.
Renowned for his physicality and aerial threat, Hateley made club-record moves to both Chelsea and Liverpool for a combined fee of £196,000.
A Liverpool statement read: "The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club go out to his family and friends at this sad time."
Ex-player and football pundit Gary Lineker tweeted: "Sorry to hear of the death of Tony Hateley.
"I played with his son, Mark for England, and met Tony. A wonderful football family. #RIP."
