Middlesbrough 2 - Watford 1: Daniel Ayala atones for error
ON-LOAN defender Daniel Ayala went from zero to hero with a last-ditch Boro leveller.
The Spaniard failed to deal with Troy Deeney’s ball and Fernando Forestieri scored his fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute.
Boro, with caretaker boss Mark Venus in charge of his third game since Tony Mowbray’s sacking, had gone ahead through Albert Adomah’s sixth goal in five games on 24 minutes. Then Gianfranco Zola’s side replied eight minutes later thanks to Deeney’s seventh strike of the campaign.
But Ayala headed in Grant Leadbitter’s corner for his second goal in three matches since arriving from Norwich.
Venus admitted: “I was pretty relieved and Daniel has to be, too.”
