Hull and back! Friedel redeems himself in shoot-out as Spurs progress
BRAD FRIEDEL went from villain to hero with a superb penalty shoot-out save to send Spurs into the Capital One Cup quarter-finals.
Friedel produced the crucial stop from Hull’s hapless defender Ahmed Elmohamady after his earlier blunder – fumbling a Curtis Davies shot over the line – had cancelled out Gylfi Sigurdsson’s magnificent 30-yard strike and allowed Hull to force extra-time.
Paul McShane nodded Hull in front before Harry Kane levelled again, taking the match to penalties, which Spurs won 8-7 win.
Villas-Boas, who slammed his club’s fans at the weekend, said: “The fans were great tonight. Their response when we went behind was tremendous.”
Hull boss Steve Bruce added: “It is a cruel game.”
