Ashley Young hoping for Manchester United starting berth after Capital One Cup display
MANCHESTER UNITED winger Ashley Young is hoping his performance against Norwich in the Capital One Cup last night will put him in contention to start against Fulham in the Premier League.
Young made his first start for United since their 4-1 drubbing at the hands of crosstown rivals City in September.
The England international made a late substitute appearance against Real Sociedad in the Champions League but has struggled to win David Moyes' favour.
"I have not played since the City game," Young told MUTV.
"I have been waiting my time and I wanted to get out there and impress.
"I felt I did well, I enjoyed the game. We will have to wait and see what the manager thinks come the weekend."
Young was pleased with United's overall performance against Norwich but understands there is stiff competition for places.
He added: "You just have to look at our squad - players that haven't played have come in and done well.
"Everyone did their jobs. As a whole it was a great team performance.
"Scoring four goals and creating more opportunities to score goals was brilliant.
"From the first whistle there was only one team in it and that was us."
