Dad's the way to do it Snoddy! Norwich star sparks Scotland win against Croatia
SCOTLAND hero Robert Snodgrass capped one of the most memorable weeks of his life by shooting down Croatia.
The Norwich star became a father for the second time when his daughter Leonie was born last Thursday.
And the Tartan Army witnessed the rebirth of the national team as Gordon Strachan’s men finished their World Cup qualifying campaign on a high at Hampden.
Snodgrass sucked his thumb to celebrate his first-half opener before Steven Naismith scored the second.
Snodgrass said: “Everybody always does the cradling of the baby celebration, so I did another one. It was just nice to cap things off because it’s been a stressful week.
“I didn’t train as much as I should have and the lads were doing double sessions.
“The birth of my daughter was the most important thing. The boss was understanding in letting me come up late and I hope that was a payback. In all honesty, we were talking at half-time about maybe taking two or three off Croatia. That’s what we did and there is that belief.
“As silly as it sounds, this is the new approach of a new Scotland, a new way of going about things. There is freedom to play.
“While Scotland have always had heart and determination, it takes that wee bit extra to win the big games. Slowly but surely, we’re getting that extra element. There is a growing confidence to take the ball and do these things.”
Naismith, who followed up Barry Bannan’s saved penalty to net the second, added: “I can’t remember being in a squad and having as much optimism for a campaign coming up.
“We have to fulfil our potential. Credit has to go to the manager for instilling in us that we are good players and encouraging us to take risks.”
