England 4 - Montenegro 1: Andros Townsend flying high
DEBUT BOY Andros Townsend sent England to within one game of Brazil with a wonder goal as Roy Hodgson’s side saw off Montenegro.
Unfortunately Ukraine’s victory against Poland means that final 90 minutes is a nervy must-win game against Poland at Wembley on Tuesday.
It was all smiles last night, though, as Townsend marked his debut with a 78th-minute cracker that flew in off the inside of the post, justifying Hodgson’s decision to play him.
Wayne Rooney had opened the scoring just after the break with a record 27th competitive England goal.
An own-goal by Branko Boskovic should have ended the match after 62 minutes, but Dejan Damjanovic got Montenegro back into it before Townsend and then a late Daniel Sturridge penalty wrapped it up.
Hodgson said: “Andros got man of the match and he was delighted, we envisaged something and it came off.”
