Rooney, Lambert, Sturridge, Defoe and Welbeck England's 'best strike-force in a DECADE'
MANCHESTER UNITED'S Wayne Rooney believes Southampton's Rickie Lambert, Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge, Tottenham's Jermain Defoe and clubmate Danny Welbeck represent England's best strike-force in a decade.
Roy Hodgson has an embarrassment of attacking riches ahead of the World Cup qualifiers and Rooney believes the group constitutes the best he has been involved with since making his debut in 2003.
He said: "It is probably the best group we have had since I have been in the squad.
"Rickie Lambert is scoring goals for Southampton and has done really well for England. Jermain (Defoe) and I have been around a bit longer and Sturridge and (Danny) Welbeck bring a lot of energy.
"Overall, it is a really good blend."
And Rooney reserved special praise for Sturridge, and believes he can work with the Liverpool striker to form a devastating partnership for England.
He added: "Daniel has been in tremendous form for Liverpool this season.
"He has scored a lot of goals.
"He has been given a vote of confidence by the manager at Liverpool who has trusted him to play up front.
"He has delivered.
"I am sure if we play together we will try and work together, try and link up and try and score goals between the two of us."
