Adam Matthews’ year at an end
CELTIC star Adam Matthews won’t play again this year.
The Welshman has been ruled out of action for three months after dislocating his collarbone against Motherwell on Saturday.
He will miss the rest of the Champions League group games and all domestic matches for the next 12 weeks.
Matthews, who will have surgery tomorrow, has been a key player for Parkhead manager Neil Lennon, operating on the right side of midfield in the opening group games against AC Milan and Barcelona.
His versatility has allowed his normal right-back berth to be taken by Mikael Lustig.
Matthews’ absence limits Lennon’s options as Celtic look to spark a recovery in the next two European showdowns – a double-header with Ajax.
Matthews sustained the injury, below, after a challenge by Keith Lasley which referee Iain Brines deemed fair.
Matthews’ crash-landing – rather than the tackle itself – caused the damage.
