Middlesbrough 1 - Blackpool 1: Marvin Emnes is late show hero
BLACKPOOL were on the receiving end of a late drama when Marvin Emnes saved Middlesbrough with just about the last kick of the game.
Paul Ince’s side had won their opening two matches with last-gasp goals and looked set for another late victory when Chris Basham gave them an 83rd-minute lead.
But sub Emnes swept the ball into an unguarded net in the third minute of stoppage time after Pool keeper Matt Gilks flapped at a cross. Ince leapt to his defence: “Matt Gilks is devastated. And he’ll save us more points than he costs us.”
Boro boss Tony Mowbray also found time for praise. He said: “The fans showed unhappiness with Marvin in the last home game. It’s good for him to come off the bench and use that technique he has.”
