Liverpool will demand £50m for Arsenal target Luis Suarez
LUIS SUAREZ will be allowed to speak to Arsenal about a possible move, but Liverpool insist the Gunners must pay over £50million if they want to sign the Uruguayan striker.
Liverpool want to keep Suarez and rejected a bizarre bid of £40m plus £1 from Arsenal on Monday night that would have smashed the Gunners’ transfer record.
It is beleived Suarez may now be considering putting in an official transfer request.
Arsenal’s offer was thought to have triggered a clause in Suarez’s contract that means Liverpool must inform the striker of the offer and his representatives pushed to be allowed to discuss a deal with the London club.
It also emerged yesterday that Liverpool owner John W Henry is not impressed by Arsenal’s approach, according to a tweet that appeared on the account of the Fenway Sports Group boss.
“What do you think they’re smoking over there at Emirates?” wrote Henry.
Suarez played 18 minutes as a substitute in Liverpool’s pre-season win over Melbourne Victory in front of 95,000 fans at the MCG yesterday and set up the second goal for new signing Iago Aspas.
However, his body language did not give the impression of a player who wants to remain at the club.
