Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias resigns following Joe Kinnear's appointment
NEWCASTLE UNITED chief Derek Llambias has resigned from his role as managing director at the club, a day after the appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football was confirmed.
Llambias has left Newcastle just 24 hours after after Joe Kinnear's shock return was confirmed by the club.
In a short statement on Newcastle's official website, Llambias said: "I have had an incredible journey during my five years at the club, including some challenging times.
"I will reflect with great fondness on my time in the north east and, in me, Newcastle United have a lifelong supporter.
"I want to thank the staff for their hard work, our fans for their support of the club, and wish them all well for the future."
Kinnear's comeback to the Magpies has thrown the club into disarray, with fans furious at the appointment of the 66-year-old former manager.
Alan Pardew is thought to have met Kinnear yesterday, to discuss plans for next season despite being in the dark over his return.
Kinnear offered a bizarre interview with radio station talkSPORT on Monday night, where among a number of odd comments he wrongly mentioned figures at the club.
Derek 'Lambeeze' [Llambias], Yohan 'Kebab' [Cabaye] and Hatem Ben 'Afri' [Arfa] were among the names mis-pronounced by Kinnear.
