Newcastle United confirm Joe Kinnear as new director of football
NEWCASTLE UNITED have confirmed the appointment of Joe Kinnear as their new director of football on a three-year contract.
Kinnear's position will see him be in charge of all football-related matters, with manager Alan Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr working under him.
His appointment is a controversial one, after alienating Newcastle fans by launching a stunning tirade on Talksport.
Managing Director Derek Llambias told the club's website: "The board are pleased to welcome Joe back to the club.
"Joe has many years of experience working within the game, and this experience will be of great benefit to the Club in achieving our objectives over the coming seasons."
Newcastle player Sammy Ameobi took to Twitter to voice his opinion on Kinnear's appointment, jovially tweeting: "Wow at least get my name right."
Steve Harper, who was released by the club at the end of last season, tweeted: "Why didn't kinnear get a 8 year deal like Pardew #nufc."
Kinnear was interim Magpies manager for five months in 2008, but stood down and handed the reins to Chris Hughton on health grounds.
