Chelsea target Mario Gomez poised to seal £17m switch to Napoli
CHELSEA look set to be scuppered in their bid to sign Mario Gomez.
The Bayern Munich front man who played second fiddle to Mario Mandzukic last season, fuelled rumours about moving to the Premier League after reports surfaced in Italy that he had sold his home.
Juventus had also been keeping a tab on Gomez, as they look to add more firepower to their attack.
But Napoli, who are desperate to keep hold of £55m rated Edinson Cavani, are in pole position to snaffle Gomez.
German paper Bild has it that Gomez's departure from Bayern appears to be imminent, and according to eye-witnesses, he is claimed to have told team-mates at the Olympic Stadium after the German Cup Final that he had played his last game for the club.
The publication also notes Gomez's advisor Uli Feber has held talks with Napoli to discuss a three-year deal for his client.
Gomez, who has hit 113 goals in 174 games for Bayern, still has three years left to run on his current contract.
Chelsea have also entertained the possibility of using Fernando Torres as a makeweight to land Cavani.
