Champions League not crucial for Tottenham target Leandro Damiao
TOTTENHAM have been given fresh encouragement in their pursuit of Leandro Damiao after he said Champions League football was not a deciding factor in where he plays next.
The Internacional striker was chased by the north London outfit in the January transfer window, however Spurs saw a last-ditch bid of £13.3m bid rejected.
Express Sport recently revealed that Tottenham are weighing up a double striking transfer swoop for Damiao and Roberto Soldado in a bid to convince Gareth Bale to stay.
Though it was thought that being in the Champions League could be a deal-breaker for the Brazilian, it now seems that this may not necessarily be the case.
"I know of Tottenham’s interest in me but I am happy to wait until the president of my club lets me know something official," Damiao said.
"I would prefer to play in a team that is in the Champions League, but the most important thing is that they share the same ambition that I have."
Damiao finished as Brazil's top scorer at last summer's Olympics.
