PICTURED: Roberto Martinez leaves hotel after meeting with Everton owner Bill Kenwright
FORMER Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was spotted leaving a hotel in London yesterday after holding talks with Everton chairman Bill Kenwright.
Negotiations took place at the Landmark Hotel in the city of Westminster on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after Martinez had resigned as Wigan boss.
It is understood that Kenwright has other interviews to conduct for the Everton hot-seat, and has not guaranteed the job to the Spaniard.
Martinez remains the favourite to replace David Moyes at Goodison Park this summer, although a number of candidates will be assessed.
Toffees favourites Phil Neville, Alan Stubbs and David Weir are all in the running, along with dark horse FC Porto coach Vitor Pereira.
Cardiff's Malky Mackay and West Brom's Steve Clarke could also be considered, but Everton would have a fight on their hands to wrestle them away from their current Premier League clubs.
Kenwright was coy over the possibility of Martinez taking charge despite already talking with the 39-year-old, saying: "He [Martinez] is on the list, as I have always said. He's no more than on the list."
"The most gratifying thing is 90 per cent [of fans] have said, 'You didn't let us down last time, go with your gut instinct and hopefully you'll get it right again'."
"All I can say is there is no way that I or anyone can say, 'We'll get it right, we'll get the right man', but I certainly will put everything into getting it right and getting the right DNA for Everton Football Club."
Wigan chief Dave Whelan claims any club wanting to poach Martinez this summer will need to pay £2 million in compensation.
