Manchester City partner New York Yankees to form MLS club
MANCHESTER CITY have set new ground by becoming the first Premier League club to own a Major League Soccer team.
The Citizens teamed up with iconic baseball team New York Yankees, but will be the majority owners in the formation of the MLS' 20th team which will be known as New York City Football club.
While there are plans for the NYC FC to build a stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which is home to the New York Mets, they will play at a temporary home when they join the MLS in 2015.
In a statement published on City's official website, the club's CEO Ferran Soriano, said: "New York is a legendary sports town, as well as a thriving global city with a rapidly expanding soccer fan-base.
"We are thrilled to contribute to the energy and growth of New York City Soccer.
"In the Yankees, we have found the absolute best partner for developing a world-class sports organization and a winning team that will carry the New York City Football Club name with pride."
The Yankee Stadium will stage City's pre-season friendly against Chelsea on Saturday.
