Wigan boss Roberto Martinez pleas with Callum McManaman not to join Liverpool
WIGAN boss Roberto Martinez has urged Callum McManaman not to join Liverpool in the summer.
McManaman was influential during the Latics' 1-0 FA Cup final over Manchester City and has seen his stock rise in the past few weeks.
The Reds as we reported yesterday are lining up a surprise bid for McManaman and his team-mate James McArthur.
However, Martinez thinks McManaman shouldn't be swayed by the mooting interest shown in him by Liverpool.
"I think if one player needs to stay at the club and become an important part of this football club, it is Callum.
"Callum has been a phenomenal player for us but he still needs to work at certain aspects to become the player he can be and will be and the Championship to play week in, week out will be perfect for him."
McManaman, who damaged ankle ligaments during Wigan's 4-1 defeat against Arsenal, will miss the European Under-21 Championship.
