Roberto Martinez hoping to add another incredible chapter to Wigan's history in FA Cup
WIGAN boss Roberto Martinez is hoping his side can carve their own bit of history by lifting the FA Cup on Saturday.
Martinez's men are the overwhelming underdogs as they are up against Manchester City, who tasted FA Cup success back in 2011.
The Lactics' chances of Premier League survival took a turn for the worse when they they squandered a lead twice before crashing to a 3-2 home defeat against Swansea.
Despite admitting that the league is their main priority, Martinez is desperate that Wigan make the most of the historic occasion.
"Getting to the FA Cup final is a real achievement and now we are there we want to win it because otherwise it will be an unhappy experience," Martinez told Yahoo Sport.
"I would say that I feel most proud, though, when the team and I finish a season having achieved all our aims. At the moment, however, that is still all up in the air for us."
"What we do know is that we have the opportunity to create our proudest season ever by winning the FA Cup, but we are also fighting relegation so it’s paramount that we achieve our aim in the league to make it a fulfilling season."
While the town has been abuzz with excitement in the build-up to the showpiece final, Martinez joked that the players won't trouble the charts with any special FA Cup songs.
He added: "I don’t think our players are brave enough to attempt that!"
Martinez has also been tipped as a potential successor to David Moyes at Goodison Park, but he refused to get drawn into speculation about his future.
