Chelsea brinkering on offering Frank Lampard new contract
CHELSEA are ready to offer Frank Lampard a one-year contract extension at the end of the season.
Lampard is a free agent as of the summer, and was linked with a whole host of clubs in the January transfer window including West Ham and MLS outfit LA Galaxy.
Chelsea have a history of offering players over the age of 30 rolling contracts, and John Terry is in the same boat as Lampard.
The timing of this coincides with Jose Mourinho, who has dropped another hint that he could be returning to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Independent ascertains Chelsea won't offer Frank Lampard a new contract until a new manager has been installed.
But Mourinho's return could be the perfect tonic for Lampard, who enjoyed an excellent relationship with the 'Special One'.
Lampard stands just one strike away from equalling Bobby Tambling's club record of scoring 202 goals.
