Arsenal consider £10m Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin
SOUTHAMPTON midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin is being targeted by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal are yet to properly replace defensive midfielder Alex Song who they sold to Barcelona last summer for £15m, while Mikel Arteta has plugged the gap this season.
With About Diaby's long-term injury set to rule him out for nine months, the Gunners are expected to go into the transfer market to sign cover ahead of next season.
And Saints star Schneiderlin has caught the eye of Wenger, despite the Frenchman having agreed a new deal at St Mary's in February.
Therefore Wenger could be forced to pay as much as £10m for the former Strasburg player, who cost just £1.2m almost five years ago.
Coincidentally, Southampton could replace Schneiderlin with Celtic's Victor Wanyama - who is also a target for Arsenal - while Wenger recently admitted an interest in Sevilla's defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The south-coast club have already sold emerging stars Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the Emirates outfit in the past, so lines of communication are open.
