Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal interest in Manchester City target Geoffrey Kondgobia
ARSENAL could be set to make a summer move for Sevilla's defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondgobia after manager Arsene Wenger revealed his interest in the player.
Wenger was coy about the 20-year-old La Liga star, but dropped a big hint that Arsenal would bid for him in the summer.
Kondogbia was thought to have a buyout clause in his contract for £6.7m, but apparently the French Under-20 international won't be sold for less than £17m.
Manchester City have also been tracking the holding midfielder of Central African descent, along with Chelsea and Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Wenger confirmed his interest in Kondogbia by saying: "I don’t really want to talk about Kondogbia too much because everyone’s after him at the moment.
"When you ask ‘Are you also interested?’ what do you expect me to say?."
Arsenal are looking for a natural anchorman to fill the shoes of sold Barcelona player Alex Song and injury-prone About Diaby.
Meanwhile, Kondogbia has told French TV station Telefoot that Real Madrid would be his preferred destination.
"It is always a pleasure to know that they are following you and they want you," Kondogbia said.
"Real Madrid? That makes me dream but it is only a rumour at the moment. With clubs like that I can play in the Champions League. A preference? Since I was small, Real Madrid."
