Southampton keeper Artur Boruc denies Norwich with late penalty save
ARTUR BORUC’S stoppage-time penalty save to deny Norwich captain Grant Holt was all down to attention to detail.
I would say the goalkeeping coach has done his homework, so it was quite easy for me
“I would say the goalkeeping coach has done his homework, so it was quite easy for me,” Boruc said, modestly sharing the praise with Toni Jimenez, manager Mauricio Pochettino’s trusty cohort. “I’m pretty happy.”
Southampton were convinced Boruc should not have had to make the save in the first place, however, and it was debatable that Luke Shaw’s challenge on Holt was even in the penalty area let alone illegal. The Saints players were enraged when Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot. “It was never a penalty,” said left-back Shaw. “But it was a great save from Artur Boruc.”
Pochettino later apologised for marching on to the pitch at the end to castigate Clattenburg.
Saints are fifth from bottom and four points above the drop zone while Norwich would have jumped to 10th had Holt scored but are 13th.
Goalkeeper Mark Bunn said: “We don’t see ourselves as safe. We need a couple more wins, then we will be all right.”
