Liverpool 1 - Southampton 0: Brendan Rodgers happy to play catch-up
AMID the outpouring of relief that greeted Liverpool’s first back-toback home league wins for 14 months, the din generated from the higher echelons in the Premier League provided more to enjoy.
There was the sound of Chelsea imploding, Arsenal’s poisonous squabbling, West Brom’s bubble popping and of Everton gnashing teeth at yet another draw.
Liverpool’s joint-worst start to a Premier League campaign should have cast them cast hopelessly adrift, but this victory, which had to be settled by Daniel Agger’s excellent header as more chances went begging, leaves Liverpool seven points adrift of third and primed to push on.
We are only going get better. Believe me, we will get better
“The others at the top haven’t got away,” said boss Brendan Rodgers.
“We are only going get better. Believe me, we will get better.”
With home matches against Reading and Sunderland coming up, Saints’ manager Nigel Adkins said: “That’s where we’ve got to make sure we strive to pick up three points.”
