Alex McLeish gets the Aston Villa axe
ASTON VILLA will talk to Paul Lambert and Roberto Martinez about replacing Alex McLeish after he was sacked yesterday.
Chief executive Paul Faulkner told McLeish his controversial 11-month reign was over and owner Randy Lerner is flying in from America to lead the search for his fourth manager in two years.
Lambert’s outstanding success with Norwich has been monitored by Lerner, who plans to get his new man in by the end of next week.
Wigan boss Martinez was Lerner’s first choice before appointing McLeish but he declined the offer to talk to Villa.
Lerner will now approach Wigan again to see if Martinez is interested this time.
