Wigan 3 - Wolves 2: Roberto Martinez laughs at Kop job
IT says much about Wigan’s incredible story that a season which for so long looked sure to end in the Championship finished with Roberto Martinez brushing off talk of a move to Liverpool.
The Latics secured an improbable finish of 15th after clocking up a seventh win in nine games – a run which has included victories over Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Matt Jarvis put relegated Wolves ahead but Franco Di Santo equalised and Emmerson Boyce hit a fine double, before Steven Fletcher pulled one back.
Martinez said: “There is another manager at that club [Liverpool]. There hasn’t been any contact unless there’s a message on the machine.
We need to carry on the progress we’ve made
“I’m proud we’re attracting a lot of good headlines and stories. We need to carry on the progress we’ve made.”
For Wolves boss Terry Connor, who will step down to assistant when Stale Solbakken is unveiled this morning, there were familiar feelings.
“That showed why we haven’t been good enough to stay in the Premier League,” said Connor.
