Wayne Rooney admits Sir Alex Ferguson row affected form
WAYNE ROONEY has admitted he was not happy about being fined and dropped by Sir Alex Ferguson following a Boxing Day night out.
Rooney said the affair had affected his display when he was recalled for Manchester United’s fixture at Newcastle last week when he was substituted in the second half of the 3-0 defeat.
In Italian newspaper La Republica, Rooney is quoted as saying that bust-ups between players and disciplinarian manager Ferguson are part and parcel of life at United.
I was tense when I got back on the pitch and I believe it showed.
When asked, ‘Did you grumble about the fine you received?’, he replied: “Yes, but for reasons that I can’t make public. I accepted it. But I was tense when I got back on the pitch and I believe it showed.”
United’s fourth-round tie at Liverpool will be played on Saturday, January 28.
The match will kick off at 12.45pm and will be televised on ITV1.
