SFA to change call-off rules
THE SFA are set to introduce new legislation which will allow clubs to demand the postponement of matches until an hour before kick-off.
It follows the decision by referee Bobby Madden to call off Saturday’s game between Dunfermline and Kilmarnock at East End Park at 1.30 due to fog.
Neither club had requested an inspection and the SPL match delegate couldn’t be consulted because he didn’t turn up.
John Yorkston estimated that his club lost £40,000 as a result of the call-off
So, in the spite of the fact the fog was dispersing and visibility was perfect by 2pm, Madden refused to allow the game to go ahead, much to the disgust of both managers and home chairman John Yorkston, who estimated that his club lost £40,000 as a result.
However, the SFA have subsequently consulted with their colleagues at the SPL in order to tighten up their policy on cancellations.
In future clubs will be able to insist that any early attempt to postpone a match can be delayed until 60 minutes before the allotted kick-off time.
