Now Manchester United eye Alex Oxlade
SOUTHAMPTON are set to leave the door open for Manchester United to hijack Arsenal’s move to sign £10million-rated teenager Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Saints face United in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round at St Mary’s and look likely to wait to hear what manager Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to offer when he makes the trip to the south coast.
Arsenal emerged as favourites to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain, 17 , then allow him to go back on loan, but it is believed Saints have still not received an official offer.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is already cup-tied, having played for Saints in their third-round win over Blackpool. So unless a massive offer is received in the meantime, he will figure in Saturday’s game against United.
And that will give United the chance to have a first-hand look at him and discuss a deal.
