Manchester United are closing in on the long-anticipated signing of Bryan Mbeumo after submitting an improved offer to Brentford worth over £60million. But while Ruben Amorim is on the brink of adding another established Premier League forward to his attacking ranks, there is plenty more work to be done.

The Portuguese head coach reportedly wants a new starting striker and energetic midfielder before the summer deadline. However, he is relying on player sales to boost his budget after committing his funds towards Mbeumo and the £62.5m capture of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho are among the senior players in the shop window, but United's next bit of business could involve Antony.

The Brazilian winger reignited his career on loan at Real Betis in the second half of last season, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in 26 appearances.

He managed just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games for United after Erik ten Hag sanctioned an £86m deal to bring him from Ajax in 2022.

Antony and Betis are believed to mutually plan on reuniting permanently this summer after his successful first taste of football in Spain.

And, according to The Athletic, the 25-year-old's return to Seville is currently the most advanced of United's departures.

While Rashford, Garnacho and Sancho are expected to leave for good as part of Amorim's ruthless attacking overhaul, Antony is in line to set sail first.

United will listen to offers for other first-team players, including Andre Onana, Luke Shaw, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund.

But the sale of Antony would mark a strong start to the club's continued attempts to trim their wage bill and transform Amorim's squad into a unit more suited to his demands.

United return to Carrington, where a new £50m facility awaits Amorim and his players, on July 7, when pre-season preparations commence.

It remains to be seen whether those destined for departures would work with the core group should they still be on the books at that stage.

Given the importance of the 2025/26 campaign for Amorim and the club on the whole, there will be an aligned eagerness to form his new-look squad as early as possible.

Business should pick up on July 1, when the new annual PSR window begins, offering Premier League clubs more financial relief.

And it seems like things are falling in place for Antony to complete his permanent switch to Betis in next month's infancy.
