Liverpool are on the brink of Premier League glory and could secure the title against Tottenham today. All they need to do is avoid defeat at Anfield to win the league with four matches to spare in Arne Slot's debut season. The city of Liverpool is gearing up for a celebration as the Reds look set to clinch the title in front of their home fans. However, captain Virgil van Dijk won't be lifting the trophy this weekend, even though no other team can catch them.

Instead, Liverpool will have to wait until the last weekend of the season to get their hands on the silverware. They might receive a few guards of honour along the way, but tradition dictates that the trophy is presented on the final home game of the season. For Liverpool, this will be against Crystal Palace on May 25.

This will be a special moment for the Reds, who were denied the chance to celebrate with their fans when they won the league in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Despite being out of the running for some time, current champions Manchester City may still have one or two Premier League trophies. The rules state that the reigning champions can keep their trophy until three weeks before their final league match of the season.

Fans are already buzzing with anticipation for Sunday's festivities, as a '20' mural has popped up near the stadium and eager supporters spotted 'Champions 20' flags and scarves being delivered on Friday morning.

Liverpool boss Slot said looking ahead to the match: "It is a big responsibility because we are aware of the fact the last time this club won the league it was Covid so everyone is looking forward to Sunday.

"But we are aware there is a job still to be done and that is (to win) one point. We are aware and our fans are aware we still need a point, we are definitely still aware within this building.

"I get these questions and then it comes to your mind, of course," but he underlines, "But that's the last thing you think about as a manager at this point of time.

"The only thing I think about is that hopefully all the players are available and to prepare them. I know how hard it was to win against a team that was close to relegation (Leicester, last weekend). It was hard to get the win over the line.

"I am not getting carried away at all. We've faced Tottenham already three times, I know how hard it is to beat them for us. That is where my main focus is on."
