Every word of Liverpool boss Arne Slot's foul-mouthed rant at Michael Oliver

Arne Slot reportedly told referee Michael Oliver he would 'f****** blame' him if Liverpool failed to win the title following their draw with Everton last month. The Dutchman confronted Oliver after James Tarkowski equalised with a last-minute goal that Liverpool argued should have been disallowed. Despite the controversy, the goal was allowed to confirm a 2-2 draw in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Slot was subsequently sent off and given a two-match ban by an independent FA commission, along with a £70,000 fine. The written reasons for his punishment have now been revealed, detailing exactly what Slot said. According to these documents, Slot allegedly used abusive language while shaking Oliver's hand, accusing the referee of having "f****** give them everything" and questioning whether the official was "was proud of that performance."

Approximately a minute later, Slot approached Oliver again, repeating his threat: "if we don't win the league, I'll f****** blame you." It is also alleged that the Liverpool boss then turned to the assistant referee, shouting twice that it was "a f****** disgrace."

Slot admitted to two breaches of FA rule E3, which mandates that participants must always act in the best interests of the game and not behave in a way that is improper or brings the game into disrepute.

Slot did challenge the wording that was reported, asserting that he actually told Oliver: "If we don't win the league, I will have you to thank for that."

The FA stood by their account of Slot's language as conveyed by the Match Officials, arguing that even if there was a discrepancy, it didn't significantly alter the nature of the offence, as the remarks still amounted to improper conduct on Slot's part.

The Liverpool manager did not deny using the phrase "f****** disgrace" towards the assistant referee. Moreover, Slot stressed that any language exchanged with the referee and assistant referee wasn't meant as personal abuse.

The commission acknowledged that while the language was charged with emotion, it was intended to convey general frustration rather than to personally insult the match officials. Slot conceded that he ought to have waited until after the game, in the privacy of the tunnel or the referee's room, to address any issues with the officials.

Sipke Hulshoff, the assistant manager, was also dismissed from the match, and Slot had requested that any suspensions for them be staggered to ensure they wouldn't both be absent from the sidelines simultaneously. However, the commission rejected this plea.

The commission took into account three mitigating factors when determining their penalty. These included Slot's immediate admission of the charge and his clean disciplinary record with no prior misconduct offences. Without these mitigating factors, Slot would have faced a three-match suspension.
