Chelsea 'devise Ben Chilwell plan' to save £50m star from four months in exile

Ben Chilwell has been told he has no place in Enzo Maresca's Chelsea first team.

Chelsea would allow Ben Chilwell to join a Turkish club on loan over the next two weeks, according to reports. The left-back has been frozen out of Enzo Maresca's first-team plans but he did not manage to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge before the English transfer window slammed shut.

Brentford are believed to have contacted Chelsea about a possible deal for Chilwell but deadline day came and went without any concrete proposals landing on the Blues' table.

And with new manager Maresca making it clear that the 27-year-old does not fit into his system, Chilwell will have to move on if he wants to see first-team action of any description between now and January.

The Turkish transfer window is open until September 18, and according to The Telegraph, Chelsea chiefs are open to loaning Chilwell out in order to avoid him spending the next four months in exile.

Galatasaray have already offered sanctuary to Victor Osimhen after Chelsea and Al-Ahli both failed with deadline-day moves, and Gala, or one of the league's other big hitters, could yet do the same for Chilwell.

The 27-year-old still has three years to run on his Chelsea contract, which banks him a reported £200,000 a week. Those wages have proved to be a stumbling block in finding a new club for Chilwell, though Chelsea could opt to subsidise a portion of his earnings, as they have agreed to do with Raheem Sterling's loan move to Arsenal.

The Blues spent £50million to sign Chilwell from Leicester City in 2020, and though persistent injury issues have limited his appearances across the four seasons since, he was Mauricio Pochettino's vice-captain last campaign.

That being said, he spent the majority of it on the sidelines and played only 13 Premier League games. Maresca favours Marc Cucurella as his starting left-back, with the Spaniard slotting into a back-three when Chelsea have the ball while right-back Malo Gusto moves into midfield.

Chilwell was one of the Premier League's best full-backs when he hit his stride at Leicester, becoming an England regular between 2018 and 2021. But he wasn't included in the Three Lions squad Gareth Southgate took to Euro 2024, despite his only other left-back, Luke Shaw, not being fully fit.

Chelsea have remained busy even after the English transfer deadline, with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr signing their teenage winger, Angelo Gabriel, for £19.1m.
