Micah Richards has claimed that Mohamed Salah will sign a new deal with Liverpool amid intense speculation surrounding his future. The Anfield faithful were sent into a frenzy of worry after Salah's electrifying display in the 3-0 drubbing of Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The game was followed by hints that his time with the club is winding down. The Egyptian maestro not only scored but also provided two assists against United giving Arne Slot his third win on the spin with his new team.

Despite being in the final year of his current contract, the former Man City defender has eased the nerves of the Kop, insisting on The Rest is Football podcast that Salah will ink a new deal for an additional "two years". Salah himself, speaking post-match to Sky Sports, had claimed he hadn't heard anything from the club when it came to extending his current deal, reports the Mirror.

"Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, 'OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season'," he said. "I feel I am free to play football, we will see what happens next year."

Discussing Liverpool's situation with Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, Richards highlighted how indispensable Salah was to the Reds. He also claimed that the club would struggle to let him go following his heroics over United.

"I think he's going to stay," Richards said. "I think there was an opportunity for him to go, was it last year? I think Saudi was rumoured to take him. Obviously Mane went out to Saudi. I just think, what's the point in selling him? He's in the best shape of his life.

"He's ripped. He still works hard. He still changes games. The difference, and for as much as we give Liverpool praise, the difference today (Sunday) was probably Salah in the big moments, whether it was a pass or whether it was his goal, he just gets it right.

"I just think he's 32. I think he'll sign a new deal. I think he'll sign another two years. I don't think Liverpool can let him go for a free, especially with the shape he's in. I think they'll convince him to (stay)."

The former England international also feels confident that Liverpool will work towards ensuring Salah remains at the club following a major summer of change at Anfield. He added: "(There's a) new manager, they want to see how it's going and what the plans are, but you can tell he's very much in his plans going forward."

Discussing Salah's remarks after the United game, Liverpool head coach Slot said: "It's a lot of 'if'. At this moment he is one of ours and I am really happy with him being one of ours and he played really well. I don't talk about contracts from players but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today."

Salah made a £36.5m move to Liverpool from Roma in June 2017. He has since found the net 214 times in 352 appearances, earning him the title of the club's third-highest goalscorer ever.
