Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could be about to profit from West Ham's misfortune as the race for Noussair Mazraoui has reportedly turned on its head. The Bayern Munich full-back, previously thought to be London-bound, is suddenly back on the market after a hitch in the Hammers' negotiations.

West Ham agreed a £16.5million fee with Bayern and personal terms with the player, but Sky Germany now claim that an agreement could not be reached with the agents involved, and the move is 'off'.

Spying an opportunity, United are reportedly in 'advanced talks' with Bayern and 'pushing' to sign the Moroccan.

Mazraoui's possible arrival would pave the way for fellow right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave Old Trafford. Wan-Bissaka has made almost 200 first-team appearances in five seasons, but Ten Hag is seemingly focused on taking the position in a different direction.

A graduate of the Ajax academy, Mazraoui spent four years working under Ten Hag in Amsterdam before joining Bayern in 2022. The 26-year-old has been a peripheral figure since landing in Bavaria, with only 38 Bundesliga appearances across the last two campaigns.

Ten Hag reuniting with his former players has produced mixed results for the Red Devils. Ex-Ajax man Lisandro Martinez quickly established himself as a fan favourite, while Antony has failed to justify his mammoth price tag.

Real Madrid v FC Bayern München

If United manage to haul a deal for Mazraoui over the line, he would become their third permanent signing of the summer. Joshua Zirkzee has already been brought in from Bologna and Leny Yoro snapped up from Lille at a combined cost of £88.5m.

United began their pre-season campaign with a concerning draw against struggling Norwegian side Rosenborg. But they gave fans something to cheer last weekend when they beat Rangers 2-0, with goals from Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill.

After toppling the Scottish giants, Ten Hag praised his recruitment team for acting swiftly in the summer transfer window. "It is very good that we are also there on the front foot," said the Dutchman.

"We are very proactive so [the] leadership is doing a great job in this moment and that’s, I think, how we want to act as United. We are highly ambitious and you have to be on the front foot and be ready for the season. The earlier you get your players in then you can work on your team."
