Former Manchester City star Robinho has turned his hand to being a TV repairman whilst serving a nine-year prison sentence.

The ex-Brazil international was one of six men to be convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in a club in 2013.

Four years after the incident, Italian authorities filed an international arrest warrant as Robinho had been living freely in Sao Paulo. The Brazilian Superior Court of Justice then intervened to rule that the ex-forward should serve the sentence in his home country and he was arrested in his home.

Robinho, who enjoyed stints with Real Madrid and AC Milan as a player, is now serving a nine-year sentence in Tremembe penitentiary in Sao Paulo, and the former forward is looking to avoid any issues by undertaking a course within the facilities.

The 40-year-old is taking a course in basic electronics in the hope of learning how to fix household goods in preparation for his release back to the public. Robinho’s lawyer Mario Rosso Vale spoke to The Sun about how his client has conducted himself whilst behind bars.

He explained: “Robinho is keeping his head down and quietly getting on with it... he is being an exemplary inmate and has had no issues with other prisoners.

“They even gave him some football boots, once he was integrated, to join in the games during recreation time.

“He is keeping himself occupied. He has signed up for a basic electronics course learning how to repair TVs and radios. He has to do 600 hours of remote learning to qualify in this area. It’s hard to say whether he’s enjoying it or not, but it’s helping to pass the time."

Trembembe’s prison holds 430 prisoners and has gained a reputation for housing some of Brazil’s most high-level criminals, including child murderers and rapists.

According to The Sun, all inmates are forced to wear matching outfits consisting of khaki trousers with a white t-shirt. Prisoners are also expected to work during their time within the facilities, with the prison offering several different options ranging from woodwork to making toilet disinfectant tablets.

Inmates are also provided with access to lessons and workshops so that they can practice their reading, literacy and drama whilst serving their respective sentences.
