Liverpool are reportedly losing ground in the race to secure the signature of Florian Wirtz this summer due to two agreements already in place.

The playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield previously, with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid also said to be among a host of clubs monitoring his progress.

Wirtz asserted himself as one of the best young prospects in Europe last season when leading Bayern Leverkusen to an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign, scoring 11 goals and registering 11 assists in 32 league appearances.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a big-money move away from Germany as a result of his stellar campaign, with Liverpool said to be among his admirers and expected to splash the cash this summer under Arne Slot.

However, the Reds may have to turn their attention away from Wirtz as a deal does not appear plausible for the Merseyside outfit.

According to Marca, there are 'two agreements' in place already ahead of any move away from Leverkusen – with the first of which being that he will not be leaving the BayerArena this summer.

Instead, Wirtz is said to intend on leaving the club ahead of the 2025/26 season rather than this summer, with his sights firmly set on retaining the Bundesliga title next season under Xabi Alonso.

The Leverkusen academy product also has a ‘verbal agreement’ in place with Real Madrid which could see him head to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2025. Wirtz has reportedly already agreed on personal terms with Los Blancos, which could accelerate negotiations next year.

It has been reported that a transfer fee could reach as much as £127million for Real to secure the signature of Wirtz, and his arrival would only add further attacking talent to an already-incredibly talented dressing room.

Kylian Mbappe, Endrick, Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham are set to battle it out for positions in Carlo Ancelotti’s side next season, and Wirtz would add another layer of creative flair to the setup.

The midfielder could link up with Leverkusen manager Alonso in La Liga in 2025 as well, with reports circulating in Spain that the 42-year-old rejected the chance to join Liverpool or Bayern Munich recently as he has aspirations of returning to his former club and succeeding Ancelotti in the Santiago Bernabeu dugout.
