Manchester United's former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the running for the vacant managerial position at Leicester City, according to reports.

Following Enzo Maresca's departure to Chelsea, Leicester have been on a relentless search for a replacement boss. Now it seems that the Foxes might turn to an old United stalwart, as suggested by The Sun.

Allegedly, conversations about the available role have already taken place between Leicester and the Norwegian coach.

Solskjaer, having been dismissed from his role at Old Trafford back in 2021, is said to be keen on moving back into the football world after three years out.

After Solskjaer's exit, United brought in Ralf Rangnick in the interim before Erik ten Hag's appointment two years ago.

The 51-year-old, who has also been linked with the Besiktas job, has previously expressed that he has certain prerequisites which any potential role must meet.

He said: "My best mate, who is also my agent, sifts through them [offers]. If you've managed Man Utd, you put your own criteria about what you want to work with. I love England and the Premier League.

"Even the Championship feels stronger than ever, but I don't feel bound to England. Maybe a different challenge where I need to experience a new culture and learn a new language."

Solskjaer further clarified: "The DNA and identity of the club are important, a club where I can be the best me. It has to be a match. Maybe I made the wrong decision to go to Cardiff, for example, where there was a clash of identities and styles.

"What I miss most is working with good people, coming in every day, discussing football and putting a plan together for the next game. It's not just about formations, but creating a culture where the staff enjoy their job and building a team together."

Solskjaer is not the only former Man United player linked with a move to the East Midlands. His former team-mate Ruud van Nistelrooy is also reportedly in the frame to replace Maresca and has also been linked with Burnley in Lancashire.

It was reported in Belgium that the Dutchman is an option for Leicester chiefs. Should he take the role, it would signal Van Nistelrooy's first return to management since leaving PSV Eindhoven last year.

He won the KNVB Cup with the club before resigning. The former Man United pair are not the only options for Leicester, though.

Ex-Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper has been linked, while West Brom tactician Carlos Corberan and the out-of-work Graham Potter have also been touted for the role.
