Liverpool in £69m transfer fight with Man Utd for player who is an Arsenal fan
Premier League clubs are monitoring the Sporting CP ace.
Liverpool could face competition from rivals Manchester United for Morten Hjulmand’s signature. The Sporting CP ace has impressed under Ruben Amorim - who is also being linked with a move to Anfield.
It’s set to be a summer of change in Merseyside, with Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year stint at Liverpool coming towards an end. The Reds are also tipped to be busy in the transfer window too, with Hjulmand one man already on their radar.
As per HITC, Hjulmand has become a player of interest for the Premier League giants in recent weeks, with Liverpool having recently sent scouts to Portugal to get a closer look. However, the Anfield outfit could face stiff competition from fellow top-flight sides, who are also rumoured to be interested.
United and Tottenham Hotspur are just two of the teams from England’s first tier said to be monitoring Hjulmand in the build-up to the summer window. Although, a move to any of these teams could come as a minor disappointment to Hjulmand, given he’s already revealed his allegiance to one Premier League side.

That’s because the Dane is believed to be an Arsenal supporter, and such is his love for the Gunners, Hjulmand even got the club’s crest tattooed onto his arm. In an interview with Portuguese outlet Record, he said: "My dad supported Arsenal and we watched games together when we were younger."
Regardless, his fandom might not be the only hurdle standing in the way of clubs trying to sign him this summer, with Sporting said to hold a hefty release clause. As per the Manchester Evening News, teams will have to splash out a whopping £69million to seal a deal for the 24-year-old.

What’s more, Hjulmand - who joined Sporting from Lecce last year - is also believed to be content at the Primeira Liga side. In a recent interview with A Bola, Hjulmand revealed his love for Sporting and Lisbon: "You have no idea how much I enjoy living here with my fiancé. It's a fantastic country, a fantastic city.
“Playing here is one thing but living close to Lisbon, in a country with good weather, good food, good beaches, I really enjoy it. He [Amorim] really likes tactics. It's important for a team and for a player to know what the coach asks for. It's very clear to all of us.”
