Bobby Zamora showed why Martin Jol will be desperate to keep him
Jol has agreed to quit as Ajax to return to the Premier League as new Fulham boss.
Zamora’s first appearance since hobbling out of Fulham’s Europa League Final defeat to Athletico Madrid in May provides an early boost for the Dutchman.
England hopeful Zamora, wanted by Birmingham and Aston Villa, marked his comeback from ankle surgery with a goal to at least preserve Fulham’s unbeaten pre-season record.
Fulham were trailing to Anton Robinson’s stunning 20-yard volley when Zamora tapped home from close range 19 minutes before half-time after outmuscling Bournemouth goalkeeper Shwan Jalal.
Zamora was replaced by Eddie Johnson during the interval and Fulham never posed the same threat without last season’s top-scorer.
